Because he’s uneducated. It is a "big, fancy word" that he heard someone else use, so he uses it to seem smart to the fans. I personally would use, reliable, steady, work-a-day or consistent to describe his car, which is always running up front, which is great, except he beat Matt Kenseth yesterday.
